Monica Hopkins is the Executive Director of the ACLU’s DC chapter. Monica and I are both former Boiseans with a friendship that’s stretched back almost 20 years. While Monica and I often have different political views, we are both passionate about civil rights, justice, and protecting the rights of under-represented and/or traditionally oppressed peoples.
As I’ve said many times recently, willful ignorance is its own kind of privilege - especially related to knowing your rights. So in this episode, Monica and I talked about knowing your rights and both answered the following:
Which civil liberty/right do most people allow to be violated out of ignorance of their rights?
Which personal freedom/right is most under attack right now?
How do you balance personal freedoms and social good/policy?
