The Illusion of Separateness
Broken Wall Optical Illusion - from Moillusions
We know from science that there is space between everything; that the perspective of solidity is an illusion.
But so is the illusion of separateness.
It has been said that humans are the only living things who doubt their connection to Source; who question their value or worth; who experience arrogance and the illusion of control; who fear the future. The soul knows none of these. Nor does nature. Nor do little children.
Here/there. You/me. Us/them. This/that. These are all binary views that reinforce that we are separate. Yet many of those who’ve spent time as POWs or in solitary confinement report that the separateness is an illusion. It’s been similarly reported by those who’ve had Near Death Experiences. Even the most atheistic and scientific describe an incredible sensation of connection; a sense of both oneness and Oneness. And that this awareness shows that there is absolutely nothing to fear. Although I’ve never tried plant medicine, many people that I know or follow have reported a similar experience of oneness and integration of duality.
How different would we behave if we knew there was no separateness between …
The spiritual and the material realms?
Life and death?
The feminine and the masculine?
Our identities and our souls?
Our work and our calling?
I’m convinced that the root of our existential suffering comes from this illusion of separateness. There is a collective disassociative disorder filled with fear, worry, doubt, insecurity, stress, and angst.
